Great Fun with the Family
by Mrs. Naylor
What squawks like a goose, screams like a giant mosquito, turns cold and fizzes, or goes right through a balloon without popping it? If you attended Monday night’s Family Fun Night from 5:00-6:30 you already know!
Monday night’s action centered on math and science topics. About 60 students, parents, grandparents, administrators, and teachers attended the event which was held in the beautiful and spacious new cafeteria.
There were 25 different math and science activity stations for students and parents to enjoy together. Graphing was demonstrated using M&Ms candy. Three-dimensional shapes were built using toothpicks and marshmallows. Some hands-on projects were a little messy with things like shaving cream, food coloring, and goofy putty. There was an aquarium filled with water where young scientists tested the buoyancy of common objects and got a little wet.
What squawks like a goose? An oboe made from a soda straw. What screams like a giant mosquito? An inflated balloon with a hex nut swirling inside. What turns cold and fizzes? Baking soda and vinegar. A skewer will pass right through a balloon without popping it if you know the trick. You knew all these answers if you came to Family Fun Night. Hope to see you there next time!
