Eli A. , an eighth grade student at Pawnee Junior High/Elementary, has qualified to enter the South Texas Regional Science Fair to be held in Brownsville March 2-3.

Eli’s entry, “Hand-Eye Coordination,” placed second in the Junior (grades 6-8) Health Sciences Division of the Coastal Bend Science Fair.  The Coastal Bend Science Fair is in compliance with National and International Science Fair rules.  Eli was recognized at the awards ceremony held at Corpus Christi’s American Bank Center January 21. If Eli’s entry places in the Brownsville fair, his next step will be the State competition.

The purpose of Eli’s scientific investigation was to see if playing video games increases one’s hand-eye coordination.  Eli administered a pretest and posttest of keyboarding skills to measure whether the video games affected hand-eye coordination.  The results of the test showed an increase in keyboarding skills for the participant.

Sixteen other Pawnee students from grades 3-8 also entered the Coastal Bend Science Fair.  They attended the awards ceremony and helped cheer for their friend and classmate when his name was announced.

Students also visited the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and Natural History when they were not busy in the Exhibit Hall being interviewed by judges.  Pawnee I.S.D. provided transportation, meals, and all entry fees for students.

Good luck at Brownsville, Eli!
