Lacy Pogue

Mr. Pogue has seen a lot of students come and go through these Pawnee halls in his 50 years of teaching.  During the drought of the 1950’s he could see how hard it was to make a living and work in the cattle business, so after graduating from Pawnee High School he decided to be a teacher.  He went on to get his Bachelor’s Degree in 1957 continuing on to receive his Master’s Degree in Agriculture Education in 1958 from Texas A&I University at Kingsville.  Later he went back and received his Administrative Certificate for Principal or Superintendent in 1976.  Mr. Pogue’s first year of teaching was in a horse stable at the King Ranch.  He has taught here at Pawnee for 35 years, beginning with 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and coaching the girls Jr High and High School Basketball Teams.  Currently teaches grades 6th through 8th grade History.  He has also spent time as an Administrator here at Pawnee.  Mr. Pogue has seen all kinds of students and believes that you should never say something that you can’t back up.  Always try to give an example with the things that you teach.  He would one day like to write a textbook titled “Common Sense” because so much of the texts now don’t talk about it.  With all the years that have gone by, one retirements under his belt, he still feels that it is most important to let the students know that you care and always, no matter what the answer, find something good in their response so that way they will never be embarrassed to answer.
