The 89th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 12, which requires school districts to obtain written permission from a parent/guardian before providing mental health-related services to that individual’s child. If you choose to (opt out) and check "NO" to campus based routine mental health -related services and your child needs mental health first aid- care and crisis intervention, the campus counselor, nurse or any other staff will not be permitted to speak with your child to ensure emotional stabilization except in cases of life-threatening emergency, threat of harm to self or threat of harm to others. This also means that your child will be unable to participate in any skills based or social emotional learning groups such as but not limited to: equine assisted learning, rhythmic drumming, conflict resolution, team building, emotional regulation groups.
To provide all other health-related services the child’s parent/guardian must check “YES” and sign the provided consent.
If you DO NOT wish for your child to receive routine mental health services but would like for them to participate in the Equine Assisted Learning Groups, and other social emotional learning (SEL) please check the 3rd Box and write "Equine Assisted Learning / SEL Groups" on the line below.
The consent form was sent home in each student’s Tuesday folder. The form must be signed and returned by September 1st, 2025, in order for your student to receive mental health-related services.
If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Witte-Hubbard, Grant Counselor or Yolanda Solis - Academic Counselor at 361-456-7256, kwitte-hubbard@pawneeisd.net or ysolis@pawneeisd.net
